Groundwater is one of the most vital resources for life, and therefore its protection is of great importance. The availability of water for hydraulic fracturing, the wellbore integrity, the integrity of the cap rocks and the surface handling of fracturing fluids must be considered in terms of groundwater protection during shale gas production.
